The most common questions about OBDII/EOBD compatibility and adapters.
- What is the difference between OBDII and EOBD?
- OBDII is the North American name of the on-board diagnostics standard, while EOBD is its European legal counterpart. In practice the diagnostic logic, the fault codes and the physical 16-pin connector are the same, so an OBD2 adapter also works on an EOBD-compliant vehicle. The difference is mainly about which vehicles are required to support the standard and from which model year.
- Is my vehicle OBDII/EOBD compatible, and how do I tell?
- As a general rule, petrol vehicles sold in Europe support EOBD (i.e. OBDII) from the 2001 model year and diesels from 2004; almost all vehicles newer than these have a standard 16-pin connector under the dashboard on the driver’s side. The most reliable way is to look for that connector in your car and check coverage in the app using your own make/model/year.
- Which OBD2 adapter should I choose?
- Aracım Cepte is designed to work with ELM327-based Bluetooth adapters, higher-quality solutions such as OBDLink, and generic BLE OBD2 adapters. For a stable connection we recommend choosing an adapter with a reliable chipset rather than a very cheap low-quality clone. The adapter choice does not change vehicle compatibility; it only affects connection quality and reading stability.
- Does compatibility guarantee that every feature will work?
- No. OBDII/EOBD compatibility means you can read standard fault codes and basic live data. Hidden-feature coverage and some advanced data, however, vary by vehicle, model, year, trim and ECU. That is why we show coverage figures live from the app and explicitly say “no data” when a value is unavailable; we never fabricate a number.
